What's this all about?

I was never one of the "cool" kids at school.

However, I was friendly enough with anyone who gave me a chance, and late one afternoon in the school Chemistry lab, two of the "cool" girls at school decided they would take me under their wing and make me 'cool". They dubbed this effort "TRIP" - The R**** Improvement Programme.

TRIP seems like an appropriate title for my blog - although it's no longer about becoming one of the cool kids, more about my journey of self-improvement.

The following is a little about the place I'm starting from...

I'm deeply unhappy within myself. It's a horrible place to be and it's a constant effort to avoid projecting these feelings onto otherwise healthy areas of my life, which can be highly destructive.

From an outsider's perspective, I'm doing alright in life. Good job, quite well paid, self-sufficient. But where I am is not where I want to be. This is about to get honest...

I want to lead a free and interesting life, and never do anything I don't want to do. I want to make millions, ideally billions. I want to enjoy all the finer things in life. I want to be popular and attractive. I want to feel adequate and happy.

If you're unhappy with a situation, two paths are available: change the situation, or change the way you think about the situation. Many would point out that what I covet doesn't bring happiness, and I should change my perspective on life if I want to be happy.

But if life offers such things to a lucky few, why shouldn't I be one of them? A big part of my happiness lies in knowing that I'm making the most of the one short life I've been gifted, and I want to experience the best of everything before I go. Changing the way I think seems like giving up to me.

In summary, I'm aiming for personal happiness, a healthy and fulfilling relationship, and to enjoy everything life has to offer. It would be an honour to share my journey with you.
